3 of Quranic Foods : Figs, Olives & Honey

Allah says, “By the figs (At-Tiin) and olives (Az-zaituun)” [Quran 95:1]

Figs – an ancient fruit

Figs originated in the Middle East, but now available worldwide. Figs are finally being recognized as the important fruit not just for their sensuous curves, sweet taste, and delectable nature but also for real health benefits.

Figs are especially potent in nutrients and minerals that help balance the body and mind. Figs possess many characteristics that make them an important addition to our diet. Here some health benefits of figs:

Figs are a fantastic source of vitamin B6. B6 is responsible for producing mood-boosting serotonin, lowering cholesterol and preventing water retention.
Figs are very high in dietary fiber, which makes them an ideal weight-loss aid. Fiber creates a feeling of satiety, or fullness, which means that you will feel more full and eat less. Fiber also regulates the digestive system and alleviates the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
The high calcium content of figs promotes bone density and can guard against osteoporosis.
Figs are an excellent source of potassium, a necessary mineral to ensure good muscles function and to avoid muscle cramps.
Olives - How do they keep you healthy?

Olive oil and monounsaturated fats have been associated with everything from lower rates of heart disease and colon cancer to a reduced risk of diabetes and osteoporosis.

Lowers Cholesterol: It can naturally lower the bad or LDL cholesterol while maintaining the good or HDL levels. As a result it reduces risk of cardiovascular disease, such as stroke and heart attack.
Lowers Blood Pressure
Immune System Booster: Due to its antioxidant powers, it can boost your immune system and effectively fight of f infection, helping you to avoid many of the common ailments like colds and the flu, without resorting to antibiotics.
Diabetes: It has been demonstrated that a diet that is rich in olive oil, low in saturated fats, moderately rich in carbohydrates and soluble fiber from fruit, vegetables and grains is the most effective approach for diabetics. It improves blood sugar control and enhances insulin sensitivity.
Osteoporosis: A high consumption of olive oil appears to improve bone mineralization and calcification. It helps calcium absorption and so plays an important role in aiding sufferers and in preventing the onset of Osteoporosis.
Allah Says: “And the Lord inspired the bee, saying: Take your habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect. Then, eat of all fruits and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)’. There comes forth from their bellies a drink of varying colors wherein is healing for men. Verily in this is indeed a sign for people who think.” [Quran 16:68-69]

Honey – Its antibiotic properties

Scientists have done much research into the benefits of honey. One of the most well researched is Manuka honey, which is produced by bees that collect nectar from the Manuka Bush or Tea tree, native to New Zealand and parts of Australia. It is said to contain an ingredient with powerful antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti fungal properties – which is named UMF (unique Manuka factor).

No other food has the same anti-microbial quality as Manuka honey. This is the reason it is useful to treat stomach ulcer, gum disease, sore throat, as well as skin problems (including skin infection, infected surgical wounds, boils, acne, nail fungus and dermatitis).

Subhanallah! We study the findings of the scientists, not to confirm or deny the truth that has been revealed by Allah and His Prophet but to learn of new ways we can use honey.
